WORKING WITH TEXT ON WORD

To enter text just starts typing. The text appears where the blinking cursor is located. To move the cursor over the text, you may use the arrow buttons on the keyboard or position the mouse and click the left button. Various keyboard shortcuts may be used to move the text in a document such as: 

  •  Press Home to navigate the cursor to the beginning of the line
  •  Press End to navigate to the end of the line.
  •  Press Page Up to navigate to the previous page
  • Press Page Down to navigate to the following page
  •  Press Ctrl+ Home to navigate to the top of the document.
  • Press Ctrl+ End to navigate to the bottom of the document.




i. SELECTING TEXT
To change any attribute of the text it has to be highlighted first. In order to highlight, Click and drag the mouse over the desired text while pressing on its left button. The following are shortcuts to selecting a certain portion of text:

  •  To select the whole word double click within the word.
  • To select the whole paragraph triple click within the paragraph.
  •  To select several words or lines drag the mouse over the words. 
  • To select the entire document press Ctrl + A.


If you want to deselect text, click anywhere outside the selection on the page.



ii. DELETING TEXT
  •  To delete text use the Backspace and Delete keys on the keyboard. Whereas Backspace deletes text to the left of the cursor, Delete erases text to its right.
  •  To delete a large section of text, highlight it as explained above and then hit the Delete button.

iv. MODIFYING FONTS
The Font Group allows you to change your text font style, size, color and many other elements.
  •  Highlight the text you would like to modify.
  •  Click on the drop down arrow of font style and font size and select the changes you would like to make.
  •  While text is highlighted you can also click on the color, bold, italics or underline commands to modify the text even more. 


v. CHANGE TEXT CASE

You can change the case of selected text in a document by clicking a single button called Change Case on the ribbon.
  •  Highlight the text for which you want to change the case.
  •  On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Change Case.
  •  Choose an option from the dropdown list, which includes Sentence case, lowercase, UPPERCASE, Capitalize Each Word, and tOGGLEcASE.




vi. ADDING TEXT EFFECTS
  • Select the text that you want to add an effect to.
  •  On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Text Effect.
  • Click the effect that you want.
For more choices, point to Outline, Shadow,
Reflection, or Glow, and then click the effect that you want



vii. REMOVE TEXT EFFECTS
  • Select the text that you want to remove an effect from.
  • On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear formatting



viii. FORMAT PAINTER

The Format Painter feature allows you to quickly copy a format that you have applied to text already in your document.
  • Select the text or graphic that has the formatting that you want to copy.
  • On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, single click Format Painter. The pointer  will change to a paintbrush icon. 
  • Bring your cursor to the text or graphic that you want to format and click on the text.
  • To stop formatting, press ESC or click on the Format Painter command again. 




NOTE: Double-click the Format Painter button if you want to change the format of multiple selections in your document.



ix. CLEAR FORMATTING
To get rid of all the styles, text effects, and font formatting in your document, do the following:
  •  Select the text that you want to clear the formatting from. Or press CTRL+A to select everything in the document.
  •  On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear Formatting

NOTE: The Clear Formatting command will not remove highlighting from your text. To clear highlighting, select the highlighted text, and then click the arrow next to Text Highlight Color and click No Color.
